How, and Why, to quickly add Open Graph meta tags to your WordPress Blog

Meta tags are little snippets that give robots, search engines and social networks information on your articles. Let us go over how to add them to your wordpress blog and then why and then even give you a bonus once you’ve gotten it all done.

First, the how: We found a quick little plugin for wordpress that automatically adds the og:image and og:title tags automatically for each post, page and archive. Grab it from here.

Secondly, the why: The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. For instance, this is used on Facebook to allow any web page to have control over how they are displayed on it’s network when shared or liked.

Thirdly, the bonus: Once your blog has og:image tags showing, you can utilize the BigPick app to send your blog posts beautifully to your Facebook timeline. (Disclaimer: We built BigPick and then released it for use by any creative content creators. Join the BigPick Open Beta and let us know what you think today!)
